“Yes, each of us will give a personal account to God. So let’s stop condemning each other. Decide instead to live in such a way that you will not cause another believer to stumble and fall.”
Romans 14:12-13 NLT
We go through things and we feel we’re all alone. We feel like an island.
We don’t feel like anyone can relate to us in the midst of our struggle. We feel like because we aren’t perfect that everyone is going to judge us.
We believe this lie for so long. We put walls up to protect ourselves. “If they don’t know I’m struggling then they won’t judge me. They can’t hurt me if I don’t let them in”
And what happens is we hold everyone at an arms length. We keep everything surface level.
We don’t get too deep because that’s where wounds set in.
“I am so blessed” “my family is so great” “my marriage is a fairytale come true”
And we try to stay positive in the midst of our struggle.
Our house is falling apart because we have kids running around all day
We’re busy at work or at church
We were told things that hurt us but we never fixed it
We go to bed crying because we carry this burden alone.
Nobody else will understand but Jesus. So you keep it between you and Jesus. You struggle in silence for so long.
Do you know that you don’t have to struggle in silence? That keeping your struggles to yourself is actually a form of pride?
Did you know that you are actually preventing yourself from getting the victory over your struggle because you won’t let anyone in? You are actually holding this struggle so tight that you aren’t even able to release it at the altar. You are actually slowly starting to identify yourself with it.
Don’t go asking for special unspoken prayer requests. They don’t get to the heart of the matter! Asking your friends to pray for your special unspoken is like going to a restaurant and when they ask for your order you answer “you know”. That’s not proper communication.
The Bible says “Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”
James 5:16 KJV
“Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven. For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.”
Matthew 18:19-20 KJV
We need to depend on each other. We need to pray for each other. We need to encourage each other. We need to allow our walls to come down so we can start to trust each other and grow together in love through Jesus!
1 John 4:19 – we love him because he first loved us.
God loved us when we were unloveable. Before we were saved. And I love you because God loves you. He never promised that life would be easy after getting saved. You’re going to struggle. But as long as we seek him daily, we’re not going to be the same person. We’re going to be transformed. You’re still a work in progress. Give yourself some grace. You deserve to be loved too.
It’s the devils tactic to get you to distance yourself and hide your struggle. Then he has you right where he wants you. You feel defeated and you’ll listen to lies he tells you.
Nobody is going to understand you.
Nobody will help you. They’ll think you’re crazy
Nobody will want to be friends with you if they find out you struggle with that. You are old enough that you should have your life figured out by now. You shouldn’t struggle with this.
“Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.”
Colossians 3:13-15 KJV
But together we are stronger than we are separately. Together we can storm the gates of hell in prayer with authority.
Together, even if you’re having a really rough day, the task can be finished by someone else and you will feel encouraged instead of disappointed.
“Finally, be ye all of one mind, having compassion one of another, love as brethren, be pitiful, be courteous: Not rendering evil for evil, or railing for railing: but contrariwise blessing; knowing that ye are thereunto called, that ye should inherit a blessing.”
1 Peter 3:8-9 KJV
We need each other. There are things we can’t accomplish alone.
1cor 12:12-26 the body.
We are all different parts. But we all work together as one. If you are a hand and you are hurting, the rest of us hurt too. Why? Because we need to work together to accomplish the goal. We are a team! We can’t be jealous of one another because we were created specifically for our talents and experiences.
So this is January 2021. It’s a new year. It’s a new day. I want us all to bow our heads to pray. We’re going to lay down the baggage and assumptions and hurts from last year and we’re going to start off new.
Lord. THANK YOU so much for bringing us all here tonight. That you for helping us get through 2020. Thank you for all the experiences we’ve gained. Lord we ask you to search our hearts. We ask you to take all the pressure of the world off our shoulders and allow us to lay it at your feet. It’s not our load to carry. It’s yours. We ask that you forgive us of all our sins. We ask that you help us to forgive people who have hurt us. We ask that you remove all bitterness and bad attitudes that we might have towards anyone. We ask that we see ourselves through your eyes, that we see how valuable and precious as you see us to be. Lord we pray that with your eyes we see each other. Allow us to grow together as one body with one mind and to be kingdom minded in all we do. Lord we know this year is going to present challenges, but I pray you equip us all to be ready for them and to get through this year leaning on each other. Lord let us have opportunities to grow together in trust and love. That we will truly be like a family who has each other’s backs with the best positive state of mind. No gossiping, no judgement, no assumptions. Just love. I pray you covers our hearts and our minds under your blood Jesus so that you can purify us so we can start over fresh and new. Thank you for all that you plan to do in us in Jesus name amen!
